Bed Time Tips for Children
I know the experts say... that bedtime should be the sametime, everytime. sometimes that just doesn't work... What other tips do you have to get your children to bed and "stay" in bed?
What has helped us is keeping to the same bedtime routine every night. So we have wind down time, tidy time, pajama time, brush teeth, feed the fish and then story time (or rocking and song time for my youngest). But if they decide to want to come out of their room, I let them but the third time they get their door closed (they like their door open at bedtime). Bedtime is my favorite time of the day :)
I am with you, bedtime is my favorite part of the day, but nothing beats the morning smiles when they wake up well rested either! We do the same, keeping the routine, and we actually start 30mins before they are needed to be in bed. This way if we have any issues, like getting out of bed and such it uually only lasts for about 10 mins. Oh and both boys are allowed one book to 'read' in bed, I usually have to take it out of thier hands since they have fallen asleep looking at it!
Me too. I am all for routine. We do super ,story time, brush teeth then tuck ins. Hubby puts our daughter to bed after reading her a few more stories and I put Justin to bed. They usually are really good at going to bed as they are both really tired. And yes I also enjoy bed time! Mommy and Daddy time. Gotta love that.
we try to stick to a routine too, which starts about 30 minutes before bedtime. PJs, teeth brushing, we take a child each! One gets to read Rhiannon stories while snuggling on her bed, then she looks at her books by herself or just goes to sleep. Thankfully she has passed through her phase of wearing a skirt over her pjs "in case she had to dance in the night!!"
The other parent gets to snuggle Ethan to sleep, yep he still has to be asleep before he hits the crib, we're working on that one, but just would like him to sleep through the night more regularly first!!!
I don't know if i have alot to offer here. Because i get my children up everyday at 6am by 7pm its not usually much of a challenge to get them to bed. However, they do both have tv's in their room and they can watch tv for about 1/2 an hour before they go to sleep...this has always helped us although not favoured by many. But i need my quiet time too!!! My son still gets up a couple times now and again but i just keep reminding him its bedtime and that means no getting up and it works for me. THis however took lots of work with him...lots of repetition is the trick i think! Good luck:)
I found as long as the routine is the same every night it didn't matter the time bedtime is. However I am sticky about having them in bed on time. But we get jammies on and then read a story. Then we gather up the bedtime things... Isabelle its flavored water, her soosie, and blankie. Shayne its just a bottle of water. Both my kids sleep to classical or instrumental music and I find that does help them wind down. Shayne usually gets up once... about 3 minutes after bedtime to "go to the bathroom" its on of his litte excuses. After that I hear nothing.
Ya, routine is absolutely important...we have the same one every night and it really helps...but, you know what helps the most...some of you will think it's stupid, but we let the boys co-sleep.
Not with us, NO...that's just crazy talk (we actually co-slept for 5 years straight so..ahem, we know about the craziness of it).
No, our boys co-sleep with each other.
They are 4 and 6 and there is rarely a night when they don't crawl into bed on the bottom bunk with each other. Everyone sleeps.
I have a friend who let her boys cosleep for a while. And it worked for them. Now the boys are in their own beds but what she did was took the bunks apart and had it so they could face each other. And that is working for them now.

Make a huge difference here.
